Sometimes I want to eat a quick dinner at home and avoid the calories and cost of a meal at a restaurant. A healthy meal at home can mean a real commitment of time but not always. With any luck a healthy meal can be accomplished in a matter of minutes. This soup wasn’t really cooking, more like assembling but the taste didn’t give that away. The mini chicken wontons from Trader Joe’s are a perfect way to have dinner on the table in no time. Toss a salad, slice some bread and dinner is served! The Detroit Free Press featured the wontons in an article so they have been hard to locate, everyone wants them. The Free Press Wonton soup sounds great, I wasn’t as ambitious as the Free Press and just tossed the wontons into chicken broth and it was delicious and effortless. Give this a try when you are having a lazy day.
4 cups chicken broth
8 to 12 ounce package of chicken or vegetable wontons
Parsley, cilantro or green onions chopped for garnish
Bring chicken broth to a boil in a medium sauce pan. Add frozen wontons to broth, reduce heat to simmer for 5 minutes. Garnish with chopped herb (parsley, cilantro or green onions) to serve.
